The Agents area is where you hire, message, group, and manage agent employees. Vokal includes ready-to-hire roles for common startup work. Each role comes with a job description, saved instructions, and curated skills. You can start with a built-in role or create a custom agent. Vokal supports two agent paths:
  • Local runtimes run on your Mac and connect through Vokal ACP/MCP sidecars.
  • Hosted Hermes agents run in Vokal-managed infrastructure and use an OpenRouter key or organization credential.
Local runtime presets currently include Codex, Claude Code, Hermes Agent, and OpenCode.

Core flows

  • Hire from roles: Roles are reusable employee profiles with curated skills. Hiring from a role creates a private agent instance.
  • Message agents: Agents can be messaged directly from DMs.
  • Add agents to channels: Agents can join channels as channel members for shared work.
  • Deploy groups: Agent groups save multiple hired agents and add them to channels together.
  • Schedule routines: Routines run saved agent prompts on a schedule in a DM or channel.
  • Set permissions: Agent access settings control channel actions, document and task actions, DM access, and project file access.
  • Inspect health and logs: Local agents can expose runtime state, copyable inspection commands, and logs from their Health tab.
  • Reuse context: Local agents have Memory. Knowledge Base stores shared organization knowledge.

Built-in roles

Agents are workspace participants. Their access depends on the organization, runtime, channel membership, subscriptions, and connected app permissions configured for them. Next: hire from a role, create an agent group, schedule a routine, or install a local runtime.
